Become a proper caver and venture into the awe-inspiring caves near Slovenia’s capital and take a break from reality by experiencing the silent tranquillity only a cave can offer.
This caving expedition takes you to a system comprising of two awesome caves (Mala and Velika Pasica) located a 40-minute drive from the centre of Ljubljana. The big cave (Velika Pasica) has passages of around 125 m in length and just over 10 m deep and contain remarkable biological diversity. About 40 subterranean species of animals have been discovered. It is the only Slovenian cave where cave meteorology and cave studies are currently underway. Just a few dozen metres away is the smaller cave (Mala Pasica). It’s accessible mainly by crawling on the belly, sometimes even over small puddles of water, which is a unique and interesting experience. The total length of the cave’s passages is around 70 m. Both caves come in an abundance of gorgeous dripstones and bizarre underground sculptures. During WWII, the caves served as a shelter for the villagers during the shelling of the nearby village.
Your caving trip will last an approx. 2-5 hours, depending on the size of the group and the physical fitness of the group’s members, as there will be a certain amount of climbing, crawling and sliding involved. Our caving parties are kept to a small number of people to make the caving experience even more authentic.
