This tour takes place at the incredibly scenic Lake Cerknica, one of the largest intermittent lakes in Europe. The lake usually stays on the plain for about eight months of the year and stretches over 20 km2, but at its fullest, it covers a surface of 38 km2 – becoming the largest lake in Slovenia. Perfect for nature lovers and cycling enthusiasts who enjoy a nice and relaxing ride!
Our cycling journey begins by riding down a macadam road that leads practically through the lake itself. If it’s not flooded, we make a slight detour onto the fields, right up to the water. Riding down the pleasantly flat trail along the lake’s shore, we continue through the picturesque karst valley of Rakov Škocjan, which was formed when the ceiling of a karst cave collapsed under its own weight. Remnants of the old cave ceiling remain to this day in the form of two natural bridges. This natural phenomenon will also be our pitstop, where we have ample time to marvel at its beauty while regaining our strength to finish the final leg of our biking adventure.
Terrain: mostly gravel
The tour runs mostly along easy gravel roads and is suitable for everyone.
