You may have heard of the Cliffs of Dover, but the cliffs of the Slovenian coast are a best kept secret you’ll definitely want to discover. This cycling adventure presents you with diverse trails which combine the flat coastal part with a hillier inland. E-bikes make the tour suitable for everyone and the views you’ll witness along the way are spellbindingly beautiful.
We begin our tour in the cute seaside town of Lucia. The trail takes us through the nearby camp and along the coast, past the famous Sečovlje salt pans. This is where we hit a steep incline that doesn’t stand a chance against our e-bikes. During the ascent, views of the salt pans open up, revealing their fascinating beauty.
Reaching the top, a scenic trail across the agrarian landscape of the coastal hills awaits us. We ride through the idyllic village of Korte and continue down a wooded area, shielding us from the sun’s rays. Following this a diverse up-and-down section, the Adriatic Sea reappears in all its glory, as we start descending towards the lovely town of Strunjan.
Then the coastal part of the tour begins. Cycling along the Slovenian coastline is a relaxing and enjoyable experience that fills our lungs with fresh salty air and gives our muscles a chance to recuperate. There will also be ample opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the sea!
Our next stop is the beautiful town of Piran, Slovenia’s most picturesque seaside jewel. With its tiny winding streets and Venetian architecture, Piran will be a blast to explore. Slowly returning to our starting point, we’ll pass through Bernardin and the vibrant, hip seaside resort of Portorož or the “Port of Roses”, a stark contrast to Piran and the hilly terrain we leave behind.
