Description
Take a ride through one of the most beautiful forested karst plateaus in Slovenia. Venture down majestic forest trails in the heart of Triglav National Park and enjoy breath-taking views of the Julian Alps. Visit idyllic villages along the way and explore their traditional sheep and cow herding way of life, with authentic mushroom hunting and cheese-making practices.
Our tour starts at the Šport Hotel. We ride through the pastoral settlement Goreljek, from where an up-and-down trail takes us along an excellent macadam road to one of the most beautiful villages in Slovenia – Zajamniki. Also called the ‘highest street’, this place affords breath-taking views of the surrounding landscape. More experienced cyclists can descend down a fantastic single-track trail to the village below.
The journey continues down macadam roads, but a non-obligatory MTB detour is always available. The next stop is a cure little basin, apparently radiating a powerful surge of medicinal energy. You’ll be able to pick your own ‘healing stone’, which will help cure you of your ailments.
Brimming with positive energy, we’ll make our way to the Nordic Centre, followed by a lovely descent through the famous coniferous forests of Pokljuka. We will end the tour on the Zajavornik mountain pasture, home to one of the best and most authentic cheese factories where a local shepherd will present us with the traditional cheese-making techniques and offer us some of these tasty dairy goodies.
Terrain: gravel and dirt
For all gravel lovers: You will almost not see any asphalt roads on this tour.
Things to know
It is important that your clothes are comfortable. It is recommended that you also have something warmer with you in case of a temperature drop or cold wind. You can always leave excess clothes in the van after consulting with our guide.
Even though Slovenia is small, it has quite a diverse climate, so it is not unusual for the weather to be better in another part of the country. In that case, we will suggest a different tour where the weather will be nice. If it doesn’t suit you or the weather is too bad for cycling, you will get a full refund.
We believe that your experience will be better if the group is smaller, so there will be max. 8 guests per guide.
The tour is adjustable to your skills and level of fitness. We use e-bikes, so hills will not be a problem. However, you should be comfortable with a few hours of activity.
All our tours are guided by professional local guides who will make sure you have a great time.
Children are also welcome as long as they can cycle independently. Please let us know in advance so we can prepare a smaller bike and adjust the tour if necessary.
Bring a bottle of water (you can always refill it) and sunscreen. We will provide bikes, helmets and a first aid kit.
Our experiences are priced per person, as listed. However, some experiences have a minimum requirement of 2 participants. Solo travelers can still book these experiences but will need to cover the cost for two participants. If a group forms for the same experience, we can refund the difference in cost to the solo traveler.
