Description
When we think of snowfall, the last thing that usually springs to mind is to go hiking in the wilderness. Think again! By popping on a pair of snowshoes, we instantly transform the seemingly impassable terrain into an enjoyable wintery destination. Suddenly, we are no longer limited to marked hiking trails or boring gravel roads, but can venture across snowy meadows and enjoy the breath-taking views of the alpine wonderland that surrounds us. Not to mention how incredibly healthy it is!
There’s a reason why the process of walking in snowshoes is called “flotation”. Because floating on snow is exactly what it feels like. Our ancestors used to go on various wintertime expeditions using this reliable method of travelling, now it’s time to share it with the world. And what better place to go snowshoeing than in the heart of Slovenia’s Julian Alps. More precisely, across the magical Pokljuka Plateau.
Located in the Triglav National Park, Pokljuka is an all-year-round destination that offers a wide array of outdoor activities in the most pristine environment. In warmer months, Pokljuka is an excellent hiking destination and a base for mountaineering, but when winter descends, this beautiful forested plateau becomes a winter sports hub, famous for hosting the Biathlon World Cup. Besides its cross-country skiing trails, Pokljuka is perfect for a snowshoeing adventure.
Never been snowshoeing before? No worries! Our expert local guides will show you the ins and outs of how to tackle the various types of snowy terrain. You’ll soon find that mastering snowshoeing is super easy and suitable for everyone. Although the level of difficulty along the untrodden paths is generally low, more demanding routes can be taken, depending on your wishes and capabilities. Rest assured that snowshoeing with us is tailored to all ages and levels of fitness.
The tour is flexible due to snow conditions and the level of participants. It is possible to do an easy or intermediate tour. The area of Pokljuka offers us endless possibilities.
